Advanced Police speed guns that nab suicide bombers and smart surveillance cameras that spot suspicious behavior is already available. Two Professors, both cousins, one a mathematician teaching at a US Naval academy and the other teaching at a university researched, developed and tested a radar gun, similar to the Dopler speed gun, which successful detected suicide bombers.

The research team was able to detect a person wearing wires simulating a suicide vest beneath their clothes at 25 meters. The inventors believe the new security device could be used from checkpoints to shopping malls and busy streets but needed further work in order avoid false alarms that may be triggered by jewellery and under-wired bras.

Analysts believe this device could be better deployed alongside such new technologies such as smart surveillance cameras designed to identify suspicious behaviour, and infrared imaging devices which look for explosives belts on the premise that they are cooler than the body. A complete system could help not just the Police but security officers who could spot bombers from afar allowing for timely action.

The recent terror attacks in Sri Lanka may just open the door to bringing the new anti-terror devices into the market and defence analysts believe the recommendation to the US government may just come from the reports from international investigators currently in the country.
